Professional Driving Instructors of Ontario

Become a certified and licensed  In-Vehicle and In-Class Driving Instructor in Ontario.  After the successful completion of this Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Approved Driving Instructors' Course, you will be able to teach MTO Approved Drivers Ed. Courses in Ontario.  The classroom for the instructor course is conveniently located inside the Cherry Hill Mall beside the Passport Office.  Lots of parking facilities, easy access to the city buses, and convenient coffee and food court.

Virtual Classroom Course Schedule

PREREQUISITES FOR THE INSTRUCTORS' COURSE 

  • Holding a valid Ontario G class driver’s license.

  • Must have at least four years of driving experience

  • Currently have no demerit points on your driver’s record.

  • Pass a terminal check at the DriveTest Centre to ensure you meet the requirements.

  • Complete the requirements for the Driving Instructor Course which includes:

    • Meet the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) vision standards.

    • Pass a G1 knowledge test at a DriveTest centre

    • Pass a vulnerable sector check at a police station.

    • Pass the G class test after the course.

THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE

  • Communication and presentation skills

  • Basic lesson planning

  • Rules and regulations of the road - Highway Traffic Act

  • Novice drivers evaluation

  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques

  • Driver evaluation above G2 level

  • Development of technical in-vehicle maneuvering and negotiating skills

  • Development of skills to teach driving knowledge and skills to novice drivers

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Successful candidates will be able to give skill and knowledge feedback in the following areas:

  • Lesson planning

  • Driving performance

  • Communication skills

  • Setting student learning objectives

  • Measuring student learning

  • Demonstrating competent, safe and defensive driving practices

EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION

The evaluation will be based upon full-time attendance and participation, as well as a midterm in-class test and a final in-car test.  Following successful completion of the course, you will be given a  Driving Instructor Certificate and you will be licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
